309L Stainless Steel GTAW (TIG) Welding Alloy

TIG (GTAW) | 309LT70

309L stainless steel GTAW (TIG) welding alloy 5/32" x 36" x 10lb package

DETAILS

309L stainless steel GTAW (TIG) welding alloy has similar usage as 309, but the 0.03% maximum carbon content, reduces the possibility of carbide precipitation that can cause weld corrosion, to increase resistance to intergranular corrosion. Used for welding similar alloys in wrought or cast form. Occasionally used for welding 18-8 base metals when severe corrosion conditions exist, and, at times, welding dissimilar steels. Conforms to AWS A5.9. Packaged for portable welding machines. Conveniently packaged for point-of-purchase display.

Features

  • Stainless steel 309L TIG welding rod welds 304 and similar base metals in wrought or cast form where severe conditions may exist
  • Sometimes welds dissimilar steels
  • Lower carbon content (.03% max) resists carbide precipitation that can cause weld corrosion
  • 87,000 psi tensile strength (as welded)
  • 58,000 psi yield strength (as welded)
  • 40% elongation (as welded); 60% reduction of area (as welded)
  • 85 HRB Rockwell B Hardness (as welded)
  • 160 HB Brinell Hardness (as welded)
  • 105 ft./lb. @ room temperature Charpy V (as welded)
  • Conforms to ANSI/AWS A5.9 & ASME SFA 5.9 ER 309L
